Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Refresher with E-learning
- English version of the Dutch BHV refresh training with e-learning
- 3 hours self-study and 0,5 a day practical training
- scenariobased training
Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Refresher with E-learning
The Emergency Response Training (ERT / BHV) Refresher with E-learning is designed for certified Emergency Response Officers who need to maintain their ability to act during real incidents. This training combines 3–4 hours of online preparation with a half-day practical session focused on realistic scenarios. The goal is not to repeat theory, but to verify and restore the ability to respond effectively under pressure—because in practice, knowing what to do is not the same as doing it.
Why refresher training is not optional in practice
Most Emergency Response Officers recognise the procedures. However, in real situations, performance is influenced by stress, time pressure and human behaviour. Research such as the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve shows that knowledge and procedural recall decline rapidly without repetition.
In safety-critical roles, this decline has direct consequences. Under the Dutch Arbowet, employers are required to ensure that emergency responders are not only trained, but remain competent.
Skills such as CPR and evacuation degrade without repetition
Decision-making slows down under stress if not practiced regularly
Annual refresher training is widely used to maintain operational readiness
What actually happens during an Emergency Response refresher training
A refresher training is fundamentally different from a basic training. Participants are expected to know the theory. The focus shifts entirely to behaviour, speed and decision-making.
In practice, instructors consistently observe that participants:
Hesitate during the first moments of a medical emergency
Lose structure in the ABCDE assessment under pressure
Focus on one task and forget communication or coordination
Delay using an AED due to uncertainty or hesitation
The refresher training is designed to address exactly these gaps.
Blended structure: why e-learning comes first
E-learning (3–4 hours)
The e-learning module allows participants to revisit core concepts and terminology before the practical session. This reduces cognitive load during training and ensures that time on location is used for application rather than explanation.
Fully English-language environment
Focus on refreshing knowledge and protocols
Flexible completion at home or work
Practical session (half day)
During the practical session, participants are assessed on their ability to act in realistic scenarios. The training takes place either at an Inprevo training centre or at the client’s location.
Incompany sessions are tailored to the specific risks of the organisation, while training centre sessions focus on controlled, repeatable scenarios.
Scenario-based exercises reflecting real workplace risks
Focus on behaviour, leadership and communication
Instructor assessment of competence for certification renewal
Certification and validity
After successful completion, participants receive a renewal of their Emergency Response (ERT / BHV) certificate. This confirms that they remain competent to act as Emergency Response Officers within their organisation.
Refresher training is typically conducted annually to maintain readiness and align with organisational safety standards.
Recognised renewal of certification
Supports compliance with workplace safety requirements
Maintains operational readiness over time
Who this ERT/BHV Refresher with E-learning training is intended for
This refresher is exclusively intended for participants who have previously completed a Basic ERT / BHV training.
Certified Emergency Response Officers
Employees responsible for workplace safety
Organisations maintaining safety compliance
If you do not hold a valid certificate, please follow the ERT / BHV Basic training with e-learning.
What will you learn during the Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Refresher with E-learning?
The participant in the Refresher Emergency Response E-learning will be trained in:
Life-saving First Aid (LEH) incl. CPR & AED
Moving a victim to safety
Assessing the victim's condition
Treating injuries
Performing CPR and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Maintaining connections with emergency response organizations
Firefighting and Evacuation
Alerting and evacuating people
Recognizing fire and fire hazards
Preparing for an evacuation
Programme of the Emergency Respone Training (ERT/BHV) Refresher with E-learning
The training consists of two parts
E-learning: 3-4 hours of self-study
Practical session: half a day at Inprevo or at the client's location
Emergency Response certificate
Upon successful completion of both the e-learning and the practical session, participants receive a renewal of their Emergency Response certificate.
Minimum requirements
The refresher E-learning is exclusively intended for participants who have competently followed the basic Emergency Response training. If you are not yet in possession of this certificate, please follow the Basic Emergency Response training.
