Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Basic

The Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Basic prepares participants to act as Company Emergency Response Officers within an organisation. In this role, employees are responsible for responding to incidents, assisting injured persons, managing evacuations and acting as the link to external emergency services.

Within the framework of the ‘Arbowet’, employers are required to ensure that employees can respond adequately to emergencies. This means that Emergency Response Officers must not only be appointed, but also properly trained and capable of acting effectively in real situations.

From obligation to real capability

In many organisations, Emergency Response is initially seen as a requirement. In practice, it quickly becomes clear that the effectiveness of a Emergency Response Officer depends on more than knowledge alone.

An Emergency Response Officer must be able to:

  • recognise situations quickly

  • take appropriate action

  • communicate clearly

  • support others under pressure

This is why the training focuses on applying knowledge in practice, not just understanding procedures.

What will you learn during the Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Basic?

The training focuses on the core tasks of an Emergency Response Officer. Participants learn how to respond to incidents involving fire, injuries and evacuation.

Topics include:

  • firefighting and evacuation

  • extinguishing a starting fire

  • using fire extinguishing equipment

  • preparing and executing evacuations

  • raising the alarm and guiding people

  • life-saving First Aid, including CPR and AED

  • dealing with injuries

  • communicating with external emergency services

These skills form the basis of an effective Emergency Response organisation.

Scenario-based training: learning through realistic situations

At Inprevo, training is built around practical scenarios rather than theoretical instruction.

Participants are actively involved and required to:

  • assess situations

  • make decisions

  • apply procedures

This ensures that knowledge is not only learned, but also retained and applied.

From knowing to doing

A key objective of the training is to bridge the gap between theory and action.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • think independently

  • practice repeatedly

  • learn from interaction and feedback

This builds confidence and prepares them for real situations.

Programme: practical and intensive

The Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Basic has a duration of two days and is highly practical.

Participants:

  • actively engage in exercises

  • work with realistic scenarios

  • practice Emergency Response procedures

  • receive guidance from instructors

The focus is on developing practical skills rather than passive learning

Emergency Response certificate via a recognised training provider

After successfully completing the Emergency Response Training (ERT/BHV) Basic, participants receive an Emergency Response certificate from Inprevo. This demonstrates that they have practised the core skills needed to respond to incidents, assist injured persons, support evacuations and act within the organisation’s emergency response structure.

Inprevo is a Kiwa/NIBHV recognised training provider and a member of the Branchevereniging Bedrijfshulpverlening Nederland (BVBN). For open enrolment courses, we issue an Inprevo certificate as standard. For in-company training, we can also train towards an NIBHV certificate if required.

This way, participants receive practical, scenario-based training with certification that matches the needs and requirements of their organisation. To stay competent after your basic training, continue yearly with the Emergency Response refresher.

Scenario-based training

The participants are trained based on realistic scenarios to learn to intervene in case of emergency. No tedious presentations but practical learning! Via practical scenarios, the participants are taught to evaluate situations and to take appropriate actions based on adequate procedures. Scenario-based training ensures that the Emergency Response Officers are exposed to the basic risks specific to their company.

Emergency Response certificate

The participant who follows this training succesfully will receive a diploma. To keep this up-to-date with the relevant Emergency Response guidelines and to remain competent, we advise you to ensure a yearly renewal of the certificate.
